What is spirometry?
Spirometry is a non-invasive test to assess how well your lungs work by measuring how much air you inhale and exhale, and how quickly you exhale.
Your doctor may want you to have a spirometry test if they suspect any symptoms may be caused by a chronic lung condition, such as:
-   asthma
-   chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema
-   pulmonary fibrosis.
If you've already been diagnosed with a lung disorder, spirometry may be used to check how well your medication is working, and whether your breathing problems are under control.

How to prepare for a spirometry test
Follow your doctor's instructions about the use or avoidance of inhaled breathing medications or other medications before the test. Wear loose clothing that won't interfere with your ability to take a deep breath. Avoid eating a large meal before your test, so it will be easier to breathe.
