When should you consider an ADHD assessment for your child?
Children with ADHD often find school, friendships, and daily routines more challenging - particularly in environments that aren’t designed for how they think, learn, or regulate emotions. When these challenges go unidentified, they can impact school progress, friendships, and a child’s confidence over time. Children may blame themselves or feel “different” without understanding why.
A timely ADHD assessment can be a turning point. It provides:
• Clear answers and reassurance
• An explanation your child and family can understand
• Practical recommendations to support learning, behaviour, and confidence
Our child ADHD assessments are designed to provide answers and understanding without unnecessary delay. Our experienced, multidisciplinary clinical team use best practice assessment tools and takes a supportive, neuroaffirmative approach that puts children and families at ease.
While part of the assessment process can occur online, in our experience, it's also very important to meet the child in person to ensure a robust diagnostic assessment.
Where appropriate, medication can be prescribed by our psychiatrist, while our multidisciplinary clinical team can provide ongoing therapeutic intervention and supports for children and their families.
How do Child ADHD Assessments work?
We guide you and your child step‑by‑step through a structured yet supportive, clinically robust assessment, based on recognised diagnostic criteria, i.e., DSM-V, so you feel heard, understood, and supported.
| Pre-Assessment Screening | Online questionnaires for parents are completed before the assessment (SNAP -IV, Conners). |
| Session 1 | A 90-minute online consultation meeting with parents (adolescents may join for part of this consultation at parent's discretion). |
| Session 2 |
Both parents (where possible) or a caregiver and child attend for this in person assessment. This involves cognitive assessment with children up to age 16 years 11 months and a diagnostic interview for ADHD in young people (Young DIVA 5) with parents and children aged 12+. This assessment lasts between 90 - 180 minutes, depending on the age of the child, with regular breaks, and a supportive approach to help your child feel comfortable throughout.
|
| Feedback Session | A 45-minute online follow-up feedback session with parents to review the results of the assessment and discuss recommendations and next steps. Your child's comprehensive assessment report is then sent out to you following this feedback session.
If ADHD is diagnosed, we ensure your child has the documentation and guidance needed to access appropriate supports.
